Suze, What if you are not behind on your mortgage, but your upside down due to the economy and the adjustable rate we were put in, and your mortgage company has gone bankrupt(American Home Mortgage) and all they want is your money each month and will penalize us if we refinance with another Mortgage Co. They can’t refinance due to Bankruptcy and the reason we are in an adjustable rate is because we were stuck with two homes over a year due to the fact that we closed on this home for $477,000.00 first because the folks buying our home told by the real estate co that they needed until the following Monday so we closed on the bigger home to keep the owners from flying back from CA. BIG MISTAKE!! LEARNED LESSON!! They never showed up to the closing on the other home.. SO we carried both homes and agreed with American Home Mortgage on these rates and as soon as one sold we could refinance for a fixed rate! They went Bankrupt in the process of us trying to sell our home over the next year..NOW we are stuck and all we have done is the right thing, Pay our friggin bills and try to hang on when we feel it would be better to just walk away. We do not want to kill our credit which is good but we can’t find a way out! HELP!! Robert

Ms. Suze, There is a lot of talk about help to people like me that would like to at least modify the interest rate on my loan, but you know what, the bank is not interested. by the time you call about 20 people about your problem you end up with no help or concrete way to get something done. Too much talk, and nobody has set guidedlines or stipulations to help the people. I live on a fixed income and a part time job. When I qualified for my loan my job was great, good money and fine economical shape. Now with my hours cut and my fix income, very soon I might not be able to make my home pasyment. Maybe you know a direct phone number to Chase Bank where I can call and get the help I need under the HASP Program. All I need is for my interest rate to be adjusted to 4.00% and I will be able to make my home payment and have $20.00 left to take my wife to see a movie, that is all I ask.”HELP, HELP,” Please, Suze. P.S., I don’t want to lie to you, Suze, I might end up with $135.00 left at the end of the month. “God” forbid any Emergencies, but I will keep my fingers crossed, and thank you if you send me the free credit report.

I do know that Countrywide is offering this HASP program tomorrow. They even said it’s ok if your not a Countrywide Customer.

    Good luck,

I’m with countrywide and have applied for HASP. I did a lot of research on it, and if any of you want more information, check out my website, where I’ve detailed my experience with it so far, and put the links for all the info and guidelines I found. More HASP Info

I wish you good luck getting the HASP loan. Once the HASP appraisal is applied, which ends up at almost 1/3 less that a true appraisal, you may no longer qualify. And, if you have a 2nd, you must get the lender to subordinate the loan. Best of luck, again.

Dear Ms. Orman, If you would, please give the following message to Mr. Obama. I can’t seem to get through.

The lenders already received the stimulus (taxpayer) money, so the fair and equitable thing to do will be apply a 4.875% interest rate across the board without any fees to the homeowner. That will reduce everyones rate no matter what the situation, fair and equitable. – Please consider that option.

I filled in an application to refinance my present home (which is with Bank of American) under the HASP program to a mortgage rep with Bank of America at the end of April. I was told that I qualified for the loan but have not heard anything more since that time.

Is this out of the ordinary for the loan to be taking this long? I also had to give them a check for $400.00 along with the application and as of this date 7-21-09 that has not even been deposited.

Would you be able to direct me to someone that I might be able to call to find out what is happening with my loan at this time.

Thank you for your assistance to this matter.

I have lost 2 good paying jobs from Sept 07 and then again in Mar 08. I currently am making less than 15000 a year, working as a schoolbus driver and have a mortgage of $977 mo. which is over half of what I bring home. My 82 yo father lives with me(multiple medical problems) and a daughter who is in college(Jr yr). My mortgage is with WaMu(Chase). Do I stand a chance of modification to my loan with a bad credit score?

  14. Tom on July 20th, 2009 7:17 pm

    Absolutely useless….

  15. Velma Cotterill Aug. 4th, 2009 on August 4th, 2009 2:58 pm

All I need is my interest rate lowered, my income has gone down and I have been fighting a battle with cancer for the last year. MY mortgage is with Taylor Bean & Whitaker Mortgage Corp.Ocala Fl. I can’t get help, please can anyone help. It seems like everything we have heard about Pres. Obama helping, people that are in trouble before we are unable to make mortgage payments is just one big lie.

I’M NOT BEHIND JUST SHORT. I HAVE A HOME EQUITY LOAN WITH CITIFINANCIAL BANK FOR 150,000.00 AS OF SEPT. 2008. (1 YEAR) NOW RETIRED WITH PENSION AND SOC. SEC. I AM 20,000.00 SHORT OF WHAT I WAS MAKING WHILE AT WORK. MY WIFE IS A TEMP WORKER WITH AN AGENCY, BUT AN UNEXPECTED KNEE AND WRIST SURGERY IS NEEDED FOR HER. ALSO, I HAVE TO PAY 964.00 A MONTH FOR COBRA HEALTH INSURANCE. I FILLED OUT APPLICATIONS FOR PART TIME ALSO. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I have tried fot the loan modification program… filled out all the paperwork …. was turned down do to insufficiant income…. I thought that is what the program was there for… I called my mortgagge company to see what programs they may have… I can not qualify for any programs until I am at least 2 months behind on my house payment. That just seems so wrong that you have to be drowning before a person can get help… What ever happened to plain old prevention ?

Hunh? the question wasnt answered at all? she didnt even touch on the HASP program?

  19. Kathleen on February 13th, 2010 9:05 pm

We were contacted by GMAC a year ago because we qualified for the first round of Fannie Mae refinancing. Turns out because we were current, didn’t have $16000! in the bank and my husband made too much money ($64000 for our family of 5), we didn’t qualify. We received another letter this week about this HASP loan that we qualify for. Now they are telling us we don’t qualify because our loan isn’t Fannie Mae. They MUST have sold it off in the past year as we KNOW our original loan was a Fannie Mae loan. We decided before all this fiasco happened that we would NEVER work with them again because of the hassle we had to go through with our appraisal. Besides lots of minor things, they wouldn’t do our appraisal until we removed some tires that were on our property left from the previous owner and they didn’t give us any credit for our inground pool because it was green (we turn off the pump to save energy after the 80’s disappear and our appraisal was the end of Oct)
